From dieticians to gym memberships to exercise equipment manufactures to every day diet plans, one wonders if the common goal that we are trying to achieve has disappeared. We all want a better, healthier society than we live in and with the alarming growth of the obesity in our kids and young adults it is very concerning to all of us as a nation if we are doing it right.</p>
<p><em>Let’s look at some of the options for burning fat and how it helps us and our family without breaking our budget:</em></p>
<p><strong>Do it the old fashioned way</strong></p>
<p>It just happened. Burning Fat was not a chore, it  was automatic. With lesser cars on the road, kids playing on the street, Play stations and Nintendos were a mere thought. Well, to replicate that exact scenario is not going to happen today, but dedicate one day in a week to no electronics activity and no TV. There are many activities to do around the house that can keep you and your family healthy. Walk to the nearest grocery store or use a bike. Don’t use dishwasher or vacuum, use hands and gloves instead. Run up and down the staircase 3-5 times.</p>
<p><strong>Food that we eat</strong></p>

If you think that sixty minutes on the tread mill will balance your large cheese burger with fries, think again. Think before you open your refrigerator and reach out for the tub of ice cream or when you wake up in the middle of the night and make your way to the jar of brownies. If you shop sensibly, these cravings are very easy to control. Make a balance of the food you know are not good for your health but you still crave for and add it with the food that are good for the health but are not high in your palate priority. The food habits will transition slowly for you and for your whole family.</p>
<p><strong>Combine the two above</strong></p>
<p>This actually works. You don’t need to run to the gym, try the expensive diet pills and or diet to an extreme just to jump back to your original weight once the diet plan is over. Control your intake and increase the physical activities. It is not an overnight change but you will observe the change slowly over a period of few months.  Change you habits for a better tomorrow one day at a time and keep at it and you will notice that burning fat is indeed a background phenomenon of your lifestyle choice.</p>

So, remind yourself that it is ok to indulge and appreciate the finer things of the holiday season as long as you have a recovery plan for the weight loss as you head into the bikini days and beach fun in the summer.</p>
<p>You must be aware of your current weight. If not, start monitoring it before the holiday season starts. Create a chart about the numbers of calories you consume in a day pr in a week. It doesn’t have to be very detailed or complex but it is going to help you tread through the next few months. If you are happy with your current weight then all you need to do is balance the calories accordingly. Follow these simple steps to maintain your weight or for an effective weight loss:</p>
<p><strong>Be aware:</strong></p>
<p>Don’t go on an eating binge blindly. ‘Knowing’ is the first step towards controlling. Be aware of what you eat, how much work out you managed and when your next holiday party is.</p>
<p><strong>Set a target:</strong></p>
<p>So, you fell in love with the holiday dress while window shopping. Set that as your goal. If you want to look good in it, losing a little weight should be in your action plan.</p>
<p><strong>Go Smaller:</strong></p>
<p>Chose a smaller plate during a celebration. You will load it lesser. It is ok to take more than one serving when your serving size is small.</p>
<p><strong>Chose wine over cocktails:</strong></p>
<p>Cocktail mixes are often loaded with sweeteners and hence calories. Stay away from cocktails, go for red wine instead.</p>
<p><strong>Plan ahead:</strong></p>
<p>If you know that the next days are going to be loaded with parties, families and food make a recovery plan to be effective during those days or after the festivities. Go through a cleansing period.</p>
<p><strong>Manage Stress:</strong></p>
<p>Don’t let stress get to you. If it does get to you, use relaxation techniques other than food. Go to a Spa, take a long walk, switch off your cell phone but don’t look at the fridge.</p>
<p><strong>Increase your activity level:</strong></p>
<p>And last nut not least, increase your activity level by a small amount, you might think it is insignificant, but you will notice that a small but consistent change will be your key to an effective weight loss and a successful holiday season.</p>
